On display for the first time since 2005 will be the renowned Muse with Violin Screen designed by staff artist Paul Feher and created by Rose Iron Works studio in 1930. The new 139,200 square foot East Wing, designed by architect Rafael Vinoly, houses CMA's renowned collections of 19th century European sculpture, painting, and decorative arts, modern and contemporary art and photography. The RIW screen, currently on long term loan to CMA, shares an honored position in its new home opposite Victor Schreckengost's Jazz Bowl. Schreckengost was Melvin Rose's professor of design at The Cleveland Institute of Art and was his life long friend. Schreckengost died at the age of 101 in 2008. May 28, 2009: Melvin Rose to Speak at Cleveland Clinic http://www.roseironworks.com/news_archive/news_28may2009.php Melvin Rose, 2008 Cleveland Arts Prize Lifetime Achievement Winner, has been invited to present a slide lecture entitled Daggers to Deco - Highlights of Design in Metalwork at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation Arts & Medicine Institute's Noon Lecture Series. Melvin will trace the evolution of metalwork (including Art Deco metalwork) from ancient origins to modern times, highlighting the derivation of decorative design from natural and cultural sources. Woven throughout his talk will be illustration of Rose Iron Work's place in spectrum of American decorative metalwork, the American Art Deco movement and Art Deco metalwork at Rose Iron Works. Public is welcome.
